How 4 Celebrities Are Redefining Beauty?

From red hair to gap teeth, atypical beauty trends are emerging on the silver screen and in magazines, perhaps signaling that media is widening the definition of perfection. The following starlets are at least partly responsible for the crusade of redefining beauty, Hollywood style.

Christina Hendricks: The Redhead

We might be able to credit the vampy Mad Men star for starting the redhead craze. Now the term “red hair” has topped Yahoo’s trending search terms as everyone from Blake Lively to Rihanna rush to their hairdressers to turn their strands coppery. Not that Christina Hendricks is the first vixen to make a splash as redhead. After all, there have been plenty of famous fiery manes before her. But it wasn’t long after Esquire named her “Sexiest Woman Alive” in 2010 that we noticed an influx of redheaded imitators.

Pippa Middleton: The Bodacious Backside

Just after Pippa Middleton’s “moon” all but eclipsed the royal wedding, cosmetic surgeons reported a 60 percent increase in bookings for butt-lifting treatments, according to UK’s The Daily Star. Of course wanting a toned back-side is nothing new, but there seems to be more of a focus on a strong and curvy aesthetic as Pippa joins the ranks of other stars with enviable booties like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.

Emma Watson: The Androgynous Haircut

Emma Watson catapulted herself from child star to fashion icon when she chopped her girly long locks into a sophisticated pixie. The hair makeover helped position herself as more grown-up and serious, garnering even more respect from tastemakers and high-fashion brands, including Burberry, which made her the face of the elegant brand in 2009. The sophisticated, androgynous look seems to be having its moment in fashion, due in part to Emma’s bold hair move.

Ashley Smith: The Gapped Smile

Perfectly straight teeth have long been the standard sought-after smile, so much so that archaeologists have even found early forms of braces on the dentures of cavemen! But over the past year, we’ve seen more and more “imperfect” grins splashed across magazine ads, on TV, and on the runways. Lauren Hutton and Madonna were early trailblazers of this trend when they first flashed their character-filled smile decades ago, but never before has the gap-tooth look been so embraced by the fashion industry. High-end brands like Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Prada are featuring more gapped-tooth models, including Ashley Smith. This new “It” girl walked the runway for the first time during New York’s 2010 fall fashion week and ever since has graced the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and W Magazine to name a few. Hollywood too doesn’t seem to mind the gap with stars like Anna Paquin gaining popularity, so is it just a matter of time before we all start asking our dentists for similar looks?
